MPC transforms the Houses of Parliament into an industrial plant for the launch of Channel 4‘s new series Secret State.

MPC worked closely with 4Creative to create incredible scenes of industry merging with the iconic London landmark. A combination of matte painting, 2D and 3D effects were used in the piece. We open with an aerial view of London which slowly turns sinister as we follow actor Gabriel Burne walking along London streets and bridges which have been lined with industrial concrete pipes. Gabriel was shot on a green screen, and the pipes were added in CGI before the 2D team tracked and added the shots together.

MPC VFX Supervisor Tom Harding said, “4Creative are always fantastic to work with. It was great coming up with the concepts together for the overall look and feel of the shots.”

The create the impressive end shot, depicting Big Ben and the Houses or Parliament transformed into a power plant, the team used a number of intricate layers of matte painting.

In addition MPC also created the effects of an aftermath of an explosion, which were crafted in 2D and the rushes from the explosion itself were created in Flame.

The 4-part drama inspired by Chris Mullins novel A Very British Coup airs on November 7th.
